DD is in Dubai visiting a friend for a few days. I know she will have fun, Gemma is a really good friend!
Dubai is a strange place. The ‘ex-pat’ community there lives and works much as they wish to – they drink, they have partners without marriage and so on. A modern life in a modern place, right?
But step a bit outside that bubble, and the situation is different. Not the Western world as we know it. A British woman has been jailed for adultery (would this happen if the man was on trial?). A British woman and man jailed for ‘sex on the beach’.
Now, I do not criticise the authorities there – this is a Muslim society and their rules have been broken, so the price must be paid. But why the illusion of Western life for the ex-pats living there? Why aren’t the rules enforced then?
A highland fling
