Another butternut squash fan

The butternut squash we grow at Casa Tyr is very popular. We give it to friends, we eat it ourselves, we freeze it. Fitz and butternut squash

A surprising fan of our squash is our boxer dog Fitz. Well, actually both dogs really like it, but today Fitz decided to harvest a squash for himself. So he grabbed a squash off the table and ran under one of the olive trees. Believe it or not, he actually ate the whole squash, raw!squash-stealer-2

I think he’s telling me it’s time to cook a squash for them, to add to their dinner. It’s good for them, so why not? I may not make the recipe shown below, but for dogs, simple is usually best.

Squash with sage and garlic

1 butternut squash
3 cloves garlic, chopped
handful fresh sage leaves, chopped
Yunquera Gold olive oil

Peel and de-seed the squash. Cut into thin fingers. Fry in the olive oil with the garlic and sage until tender, and serve.

  1. Your dog is a star. We had a Golden Retriever that liked to eat socks, wish he had liked squash it would have been much more…..sophisticated.

  4. Too funny! I had a cat that once ate a lettuce heart (the part you whack out and throw away), but her prior owner had never fed her enough so she was always hungry. I never heard of animals eating squash!
