…the prodigal returns

Back where we came from, reluctant returnees.

Yunquera politics

It’s election year in Yunquera, and this one is looking to be a contentious one! The election is in May, and until then, we will be having a series of rallies, glad-handing in the street, and serious conversations with friends.

Like everywhere else in the world, the economy in Yunquera is in poor shape. There is a lot of unemployment, some say up to 50%. These will be sure to be the main talking points of the election, with every side promising to fix everything.

The last election, there was no clear winner, so we’ve had a coalition government. I’m sure every party (PP, PSOE and left) will be hoping that there is a clear mandate this time.

This morning was (as far as I know) the first salvo – the official opening of the new town hall. The Powers That Be pointed to all the fine projects that they have completed.

Tonight? A rally on behalf of the other side – I’m pretty sure their points will be exactly the opposite to those heard this morning!

The result? Who knows, but it will be an interesting roller coaster ride until May!
