Olive picking – terminado!

Yes, we’ve finished – for now, anyway!

Yesterday, by lunchtime, we’d picked our “tariff” for the day (3 sacks), and reckoned that we finally had picked enough olives for a full press. So off to the mill we went, and sure enough, we now had plenty for the press!

We’re hoping that (weather permitting) we can get out after Christmas and pick the remaining olives – we hate to waste them! If we’re lucky, there will be enough for a second press, but we’ll have to wait and see. As always, we are at the mercy of the weather – both rain and wind are common at this time of the year, and the riper the olives are, the more prone they are to being blown off the tree.

Watch this space for yet more exciting olive picking news in a couple of weeks, but for now, let the Christmas preparations begin!

    • Nancy, thanks! It’s amazing that I could manage a smile on my 5th day of picking! When I saw that photo of me, I could finally see what Kenton meant when he said that we Larson kids look like Dad!
