…the prodigal returns

Back where we came from, reluctant returnees.

Seeing friends

Sometimes in the busy day-to-day routine of life, it’s possible to forget how much we miss friends and family. This has hit home this week, because our great friends Jim and Christine are visiting.

It has been so good to see them! We have known Christine for absolutely years. We met her during the last big economic crisis in the UK, when mortgage rates went up so fast that we almost lost our house. Kenton and I both worked 2 jobs for awhile – in the software business during the day, and at a supermarket in the evenings. Christine’s then husband was also working at the supermarket, and it was only a matter of weeks before we got together for dinner.

And what a first meeting that was! I remember how tense I was – cooking dinner for a woman who ran her own catering business! She has always claimed she was also tense that night, but you certainly couldn’t tell! But we got along great guns, and have never looked back, through thick and thin. She married Jim some years ago, and now he’s part of the group, too.

Christine is an extremely charming and sociable woman. Absolutely one of a kind – always there for you, always available to her friends to lend a hand. Those same friends aren’t always as available to help her in return, but she doesn’t seem to mind. Sometimes I get cross on her behalf, but she’s the kind of person who wouldn’t have it any other way. I wish I could be that nice!
