…the prodigal returns

Back where we came from, reluctant returnees.

A birthday surprise

Kenton and I don’t make much of our birthdays. We’re not the “bah humbug” types, it just doesn’t seem like that big a deal. Celebrations usually involve a nice dinner, either cooked at home, or eaten out.

So much to my surprise, a very big deal was made out of this birthday! (and no, it was not one of the ‘big’ birthdays, either!!) Kenton announced that he was taking me away for the weekend, and the location was a surprise. What fun! He made all the arrangements, and I knew nothing about it, other than it did not involve a plane ride, and I didn’t need to pack fancy clothes.

The reservation turned out to be at a very nice, small hotel at the Ardales lakes (see http://www.hoteldelconde.com). Only an hour from home, but the scenery was much different. The hotel was lovely, and the two brothers that ran it, a real couple of characters. The food in the hotel was stupendous – we shared a shoulder of lamb braised with honey.  Wonderful!

We even played the tourists for a couple of days, something we’ve never done in this area before. Every year we vow to really explore the area, but we never have had time to do so. Having a whole weekend to just ‘potter’ was such a treat!

Enjoy the video – especially the shots of the Camino del Rey. Super scary!
