A highland fling

our wee adventure on the Black Isle

The first barbie

…and I’m not talking about the doll!

It was a really gorgeous day today. Sun, blue skies, warm. No wind to speak of. A perfect day to have friends over for a barbecue, and that’s exactly what we did!

With the ‘crisis’, we have changed our approach to dinner parties. No longer is the burden only on one person – one person does a starter, one does the main course and veg, and one does the dessert. It works out especially well, as one of my friends is absolutely excellent at making desserts!

We were the nominated ‘main course and veg’ people for today, which worked out well given our huge vegetable garden that is just now coming good!

We went down to the garden this morning, and dug new potatoes, baby parsnips that I glazed with coarse mustard and maple syrup, cabbage that I fried with bacon and onion, and lettuce for a salad. Add to that radishes, rocket and endive for the salad, and fresh-cut mint for the potatoes. Finish off with Kenton’s special bbq, and you have the recipe for a really good time.

The dogs had fun, too. Especially Fitz, who found a purse with keys and a cell phone in it, discovered in the nick of time before both ended up in the campo!
