…the prodigal returns

Back where we came from, reluctant returnees.

Andalucian light on a spring day

Andalucia, above everywhere else in Spain, is noted for the quality of its light. And today I can really appreciate why! There  is a real intensity to the blue of the sky, the yellow of the sun, the greens of the mountain. The wonderfully clean air gives special clarity to everything.

To me, this seems especially precious in springtime (happy spring equinox, by the way!!). After the long, hard winter you really do notice everything around you all the more. We were thrilled to find our first bean had popped through, as well as our first 2 spears of asparagus. Yum, can’t wait!

We celebrated the lovely day by lunching with friends at their house in the village. They are wonderfully warm and generous people, and very simpatico. Sometimes I envy the quiet of a roof terrace in the village – it feels so protected compared to our mountain home. Her pansies are already flowering – we have not a flower in sight yet, as it is 5 degrees cooler where we are!

We lunched and drank well, had wonderful conversations, and returned to have a little rest. What a delightful day!
