Mucho aire !

…or “much wind”. Yunqueranos always refer to wind as “aire” rather than “viento”, for some reason. As we live on top of the mountain, we very frequently have “mucho aire”, believe me!

In some ways, this is very useful. I have mentioned before that our house is off-grid in every way. No phone land line, no town water or sewage, no town electricity. Instead, we produce electricity using a wind turbine and solar panels to power up our battery set. (we also have a backup diesel generator for times when we are becalmed)

So…back to the wind. About 2 weeks ago, winter hit with a bang. We had winds gusting to 100 kph and more, kinda scary! The damage up on the mountain was pretty minimal, luckily – our neighbors lost a pool cover and part of their re-roofing effort on a shed. We lost part of the greenhouse roof.

Hence the “mucho aire” comments from our Spanish friends, and a repair job to the greenhouse roof today! Gosh, I certainly can explain things in a roundabout manner, verdad?

  1. We are not going to finish the greenhouse roof today, that’s for certain – the aire is back !
