Potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes!


We just finished planting 250 potato plants! Yes, you heard right! What, you may ask, are 2 people going to do with so many potatoes?

Well, this goes along with our general principle this year of planting more types of seeds, and more of everything. To a large degree, this is just extending our usual veg planting, anyway. But we have decided to, where possible, share our vegetable bounty with our close friends, playing our part in helping us all to get over “the crisis”. This isn’t smug self-righteousness, either, or at least I don’t think so. It doesn’t cost us much extra money, just our time, and it is something we enjoy doing anyway.

There is nothing so satisfying as to pick veg from the garden, and cook/eat it the same night. We have just reached the point where last year’s harvest has been eaten, so we had to buy vegetables over the weekend. I hated it! And they have no flavour, either – and probably little food value.

So that’s the story on the potato planting. Next week comes spinach, rocket, peas and beans!
