Back where we came from, reluctant returnees.

Where’s Yunquera?

I’ve been talking about our life here, our beautiful village and its people on my blog for over a month now, can you believe it? To celebrate, I thought I would finally show you where Yunquera is!

Most of you will be familiar with Spain, and its heavily tourist-y coast, the Costa del Sol. For years, this part of Spain was untouched by tourism, until the Scandinavians showed up in the last years of Franco’s rule, flaunting their bikinis on the beach! Ever since those days, the British, Scandinavians, Germans and others have loved this area. It has a beautiful coastline, and is usually warm(ish) and sunny even in the winter. It has golf courses galore, and golfers from as far away as the US come here for a long weekend of golfing, eating and drinking.

Well, we are about an hour from all that! We live seriously inland, in the “campo” (countryside), as it’s called. When we mention to Spaniards from the coast where we live, they invariably say “Yunquera – very cold in the winter!”.
