Recession, depression, protection

So what is going on? A recession? Or, as Brown is thinking, a depression? And protectionist policies – what is that all about?

Are you tired of all this hype? I am. Yes, the economy sucks, everywhere. Yes, we are all tightening our belts. However, I can’t help but feel the media and the so-called government experts are making things worse by the daily scare stories of how bad things are. Any income gains people are seeing from mortgage rates going down are being put in their pockets, not spent – how can you expect people to spend money if they are scared? And things will not pick up unless people start spending!

And now, as in all bad times, we get more scares. “British jobs for British workers” – wow, that’s a nice sentiment, aren’t we all part of the same EU? “Buy American” – yeah, that’ll help! I am sure most people, and governments are smarter than that now, aren’t they? Don’t we know by now that world economies are too tightly bound to act so unilaterally?

I despair sometimes.

  1. Off topic but Barack the liberal ? Threatening the security of a sovereign nation and its people, threatening to deliberately increase the risk to terrorist attack by witholding information, all to ensure that evidence of American torture of innocent people is suppressed. Sounds pretty liberal to me. Welcome to the White(wash) House, George W. Obama. Plus ca change !
